About Us
Ryan & Liam
We’re Ryan and Liam O’Sullivan, two brothers in our 20s who’ve always felt more at home on the water than on land. I’m Ryan, the older brother and the skipper of our journey. Liam is the younger one, first mate (and chronic worrier).
Together, we’re charting a course from Ireland to Spain, reconnecting with our roots from our Mum and discovering the freedom of life aboard our 35-foot boat, La Sirena. We plan to sail around Spain and Portugal. It’s a challenge we’ve been waiting for.
Why We’re Sailing
Ryan’s Take:
This journey has been years in the making.
Growing up in Dublin, we spent most of our free time daydreaming about the sea. Our Ma’, Sofia, was from San Sebastián in the north of Spain, and she used to tell us stories all the time.
After she passed away, we miss her. We knew we were going to inherit some money so at the wake Liam and I made a pact: we’ll buy a boat, sail to San Sebastián, and honour our Ma’.
Liam’s Take:
This whole thing was my idea. But it’s about us.
Hopefully, we’ll learn a thing or two about ourselves along the way. It’s not going to be easy, not just the sailing but actually being together for so long after so many years!
Meet the Crew
Ryan (28):
I’m the older brother, the problem-solver, and the one who keeps La Sirena running (most of the time).
Sailing has always been my thing—and I’ve been dreaming of a big adventure like this. I’m the practical and grounded one, though Liam might say I’m just headstrong.
Liam (25):
I’m the creative one, always looking for the story in every moment.
When I’m not taking photos or writing for the blog (or forcing Ryan to write his part of each blog) I’m probably cooking something in the galley or attempting to fish off the stern.
I’m here for the adventure, and for Ma’.
